Refugee Committee Calls for Freeze on Rent Increases at Artists' Park

The Parliamentary Committee on Refugees has decided to request a suspension of letters for rent increases for artists and craftsmen operating in the "Mediterranean" Artists' Park in Larnaca, until the issue is reviewed. This decision was made after a discussion in which the need to support the artists' stay in the area and avoid unequal treatment was emphasized. The Committee Chairman, Nikos Kettiros, stated that the area has acquired particular cultural and tourist significance, hosting displaced artists who have created a unique cultural product. Despite an informal agreement for low rents, verbal reports of increases, even up to 80%, have begun to emerge. MPs from various parties supported the need to find a solution that takes into account the specificities of the area and supports the artists. The importance of cooperation between the state, the Municipality of Larnaca, the Larnaca Tourism Development and Promotion Company, and the Deputy Ministries of Culture and Tourism for the upgrading of the area was emphasized.
