Record High Greenhouse Gas Levels in Cyprus, Commissioner Reports

Environmental Commissioner Antonia Theodosiou reported that greenhouse gas concentrations in Cyprus have reached record high levels, with electricity generation and transportation being the main sources of emissions. However, a 5.2% reduction in emissions was recorded according to Eurostat in February 2026, indicating progress, but not enough for complacency. Environmental pressure extends to the issue of water, with drought and desertification now becoming a reality. The Commissioner stressed the need for an integrated approach to natural resource management and the promotion of Renewable Energy Sources.
