Recent Meetings on the Cyprus Issue

Following the recent trilateral meeting on the Cyprus issue, various positions and assessments have been expressed regarding the attitude of the participants. The article examines the position of the Greek Cypriot side, presenting the views of various political parties and individuals. AKEL emphasized the lack of substantial progress and the need to intensify contacts between leaders, as well as to strengthen efforts for an agreement on Confidence-Building Measures (CBMs). DISY noted the importance of utilizing the current momentum with seriousness and responsibility, seeking substantial negotiations based on the agreed framework. EDEK argued that the focus on CBMs has failed due to Turkish intransigence and that the essence of the Cyprus issue has been marginalized. DIKO expressed reservations about the recording of convergences, while DIPA expressed support for the President's handling of the situation and highlighted the difficulty on the issue of CBMs. The article highlights the different approaches and concerns that exist on the Greek Cypriot side regarding the course of negotiations, as well as the need for a cohesive strategy to achieve a sustainable solution to the Cyprus problem.
