Raouna at EP: Competitiveness is Directly Linked to Strategic Autonomy

The Deputy Minister for European Affairs, Marilena Raouna, highlighted the role of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU in promoting European competitiveness during a discussion at the European Parliament. Ms. Raouna emphasized the close link between competitiveness and European strategic autonomy, stressing that strengthening competitiveness is vital for economic growth, social progress and long-term prosperity. The Cypriot Presidency considers Europe's strategic autonomy as the next step in European integration. The Deputy Minister referred to the pressures facing the EU both from abroad (instrumentalization of dependencies) and from within (fragmentation of the single market) and stressed the need to remove barriers to the single market, especially the ten most problematic ones, as well as reduce energy costs. She also emphasized the importance of maintaining social cohesion alongside economic prosperity.
