Proposed Law Could Allow Mayors and Community Leaders to Serve Indefinitely

DIKO has submitted a bill that would allow some mayors and community leaders to remain in office for more than three terms. The proposal stipulates that terms before the 2029 elections will not be counted towards the three-term limit. The aim is to allow elected officials who have already served for many years to seek re-election, despite the existing limit. As an example, Andreas Vyras, president of the Union of Municipalities, who has been serving as the mayor of Larnaca since 2016, is mentioned.
