Private Kindergartens in Cyprus Face Closure Risk Due to Legislative Changes

Private kindergartens in Cyprus are facing serious financial difficulties and the risk of closure due to changes in legislation, particularly regarding the compulsory education age. A discussion in the Parliament's Education Committee highlighted the need for support incentives, similar to those provided to private schools and universities. The Association of Private Kindergartens points to three main issues: the decline in student enrollment due to free attendance in public school pre-primary classes, staff shortages, and unequal application of legislation compared to public kindergartens. Furthermore, it was reported that some private kindergartens withdrew from government subsidy programs without timely informing parents, creating problems in finding available spaces.
