President: With Eight Specific Proposals at the Informal EU Summit – Important Decisions Expected During the Cypriot Presidency

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, described the informal EU Summit in Alden-Biesen as one of the most important Councils of the EU, as he arrives with eight specific proposals to strengthen the EU's competitiveness. The goal is to make decisions with clear timelines, as had happened in the previous informal Summit on defense and security. President Christodoulides stressed the importance of strengthening competitiveness to achieve the EU's strategic autonomy and referred to the priority given to all related legislative files. He expects important decisions during the Cypriot Presidency. In addition, the President will have contacts with the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis for an update on the meeting with the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, as well as with other Mediterranean EU member states for a common approach regarding the invitation from the American President.
