President Inaugurates Two Reservoirs, Emphasizes Water Security

The President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, inaugurated two new GLS-type reservoirs, “Cleio” and “Erato”, in Nicosia, with a total capacity of 17,200 cubic meters. The President emphasized that the goal is to achieve water security for the country, given the increasing climate crisis and reduced rainfall. He pointed out that Cyprus is particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change, with temperatures rising faster than the global average and rainfall decreasing. The new projects increase Nicosia's water adequacy by 36 hours in case of water supply disruption and are part of a broader plan of over 200 million euros for water projects during the period 2024-2030. The President also called for the development of water awareness, as water consumption in Cyprus is among the highest in the European Union.
