President Christodoulides Prioritizes Strengthening Relations with Italy

President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides paid an official visit to Rome, where he met with the President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella. During the meeting, President Christodoulides stressed the priority his government gives to strengthening bilateral relations with Italy, recognizing the strong ties of friendship and the common cultural identity of the two countries. An agreement was reached to begin discussions on drafting a joint partnership document, with the aim of upgrading cooperation in various areas. President Mattarella expressed satisfaction with this initiative, while President Christodoulides mentioned that Cyprus is taking over the Presidency of the EU Council and wishes to coordinate with Italy for a more autonomous and open Union. The visit took place 14 years after the last official visit of a Cypriot President to Italy and two years after the first visit of an Italian President to Cyprus. Extended talks were held between the delegations of the two countries, where issues of common interest were discussed. President Christodoulides thanked President Mattarella for organizing an archaeological exhibition showcasing the common culture of Cyprus and Italy, emphasizing the long-standing ties between the two countries. The visit of President Christodoulides marks a new phase in Cyprus-Italy relations, aiming to deepen cooperation at a strategic level and address common challenges.
