President: "Cautiously optimistic" after meeting with UN Secretary-General on Cyprus issue

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, stated that he is "cautiously optimistic" after his meeting with the United Nations Secretary-General in Brussels regarding the Cyprus issue. He emphasized the "clear political will" of the UN Secretary-General and his plan for the resumption of negotiations, expressing hope for a positive response from the Turkish side. The President Christodoulides mentioned that, based on the lessons of the 1821 struggle, they continue their efforts for the liberation and reunification of the homeland. He noted that the Greek revolution was the only liberal revolution that yielded results and paved the way for the freedom of other peoples. Speaking after the student parade in Nicosia, the President wished "Happy Birthday to all Greeks everywhere", emphasizing that March 25th is a double celebration, as it honors the Annunciation of the Theotokos and the National Palingenesis. He underlined the importance of utilizing the lessons of the struggle for the liberation and reunification of Cyprus. The President Christodoulides expressed hope that the intention of the UN Secretary-General will be translated into a specific initiative that will lead to the resolution of the Cyprus issue based on the agreed framework.
