Preparations Underway for Larnaca 2030 as European Capital of Culture

Preparations have begun for Larnaca to take on the role of European Capital of Culture in 2030. The process includes staffing the 'Larnaca 2030' organization and contacting artists who will participate in the events. Kelly Diapouli, Artistic Director, stated that the official proclamation of Larnaca by the Deputy Ministry of Culture is expected, following the opinion of the competent committee. Subsequently, the process of establishing the company and hiring staff to manage the project, which has a budget of 27 million euros, will begin. An open call for the recruitment of a General Manager and a Communication and Marketing Manager is already underway, with the aim of completing the key hires by March. Ms. Diapouli emphasized that the first year will focus on securing funding and finalizing procedural issues. The Deputy Ministry of Culture has already committed to allocating 10 million euros, while contributions from other bodies, such as the Larnaca Municipality and the Larnaca Provincial Self-Government Organization, are also expected. Regarding European funding, Ms. Diapouli clarified that in European Capitals of Culture, funding comes primarily from national sources, while Europe provides an amount of 1.5 million euros at the end of the process. The success of 'Larnaca 2030' depends on the effective management of resources and the implementation of a rich artistic program.
