Potato Farmers Request Subsidies for 2025 Damages

Potato farmers in Cyprus are requesting financial aid from the government to cover the damages they suffered in 2025 due to extreme weather events such as heatwaves, frost, and drought. They are also requesting water supply for irrigation during frost periods to protect their crops. Despite their efforts, access to water is limited due to the overall shortage. Farmers point out that production costs have increased significantly, while prices remain satisfactory for consumers but not for them. They hope for a new subsidy, as in 2024, to cover part of the increased costs and maintain production and exports.
