Pittokopitis: We insist on new dams and Chrysochous desalination unit

The president of the Paphos Water Development Corporation (EOA Paphos), Charalambos Pittokopitis, emphasized the need for continued promotion of water projects in the province, despite the operation of desalination plants. Specifically, he referred to the inclusion in the state's medium and long-term planning of two new dams: one in Episkopi, with a capacity of 5 million cubic meters, and an enrichment dam in Souskiou. These projects will strengthen the water balance of the province and support water supply and irrigation. Mr. Pittokopitis stressed the need to support the primary sector, as farmers face difficulties in continuing their activities without state support. At the same time, he referred to the criticality of building a desalination unit for the water supply of the Chrysochous district, which is supplied exclusively by boreholes. The Chrysochous region faces a serious problem due to the prolonged drought, with many boreholes showing a decrease in available water quantities. The construction of a desalination unit is considered the only solution to ensure a permanent water supply in the area. The lack of water threatens the sustainability of agriculture and life in the region.
