Pioneering Program for Mosaic Restoration with the Participation of Frederick University

Frederick University is participating in the pioneering program “MOSAIC,” which aims to digitally capture and reproduce Byzantine mosaics. The collaboration includes the Technical University of Crete, the Byzantine Museum, and the Department of Antiquities. Five professors and one graduate of Frederick University are involved in the project, utilizing modern technology and artificial intelligence to create faithful replicas of mosaics at various scales. The program is the first of its kind for Byzantine mosaics and will contribute to the preservation and documentation of cultural heritage, while the replicas will be used for educational and exhibition purposes. Frederick University will contribute with its state-of-the-art equipment and new technology acquired through the project.
