Pentagon Preparing for Weeks of Ground Operations in Iran

The Pentagon is preparing for weeks of ground operations in Iran, but without planning a large-scale invasion. According to the Washington Post, the operations will be carried out by members of special forces and other conventional units. This information comes at a time of escalating tensions in the Middle East, with the arrival of the US ship USS Tripoli in the region, carrying 2,500 marines and F-35s. The mission could expose US personnel to various threats, such as Iranian drones, missiles, and improvised explosives. Discussions within the US government concern the possible seizure of Kharg Island, a key Iranian oil export hub, as well as raids on other coastal areas near the Strait of Hormuz, in order to locate and destroy weapons. President Trump has expressed his desire for negotiations, but the White House press secretary warned that he is ready to “unleash hell” if Iran does not end its nuclear ambitions and threats.
