Pavlos Kontides Named Cyprus' Top Athlete for Record 11th Time

Pavlos Kontides was named Cyprus' top athlete of the year for 2025 at the awards ceremony of the Union of Sports Journalists of Cyprus (EAΚ), marking the 11th time he has received the honor in his career. The award ceremony took place at the Municipal Theatre of Nicosia. Kontides has been in the top five athletes for 14 consecutive years. In 2025, he won a silver medal at the ILCA7 World Sailing Championship and a bronze medal at the Grand Slam in Long Beach. His father, Dr. Panagiotis Kontides, received the award on his behalf as the athlete is currently in training in Lanzarote. Kontides thanked the EAK and emphasized the importance of hard work and support in achieving his goals.
