Path Cleared for Common Medicine Market, Adoption of Hadjipantela's Proposals

The European Parliament has approved its negotiating position with a large majority (75%) to strengthen the availability and supply of essential medicines in the EU, paving the way for a common medicine market. Cypriot MEP Michalis Hadjipantela made a significant contribution to the EP's positions, with a proposal that passed and stipulates that when at least 5 countries are interested, offers will be made for the bulk purchase of medicines by the European Commission, saving money. The proposal also provides for the possibility of sending medicines from countries where there is a sufficiency to countries with shortages, such as Cyprus. The goal is to ensure a high level of public health protection and reduce the EU's dependence on other countries.
