Parties Facing an Electoral Nightmare of Their Own Making

The next parliamentary elections are expected to be particularly difficult for traditional parties, according to all polls. The decline in the popularity of the parties is due to the disappointment of citizens with the behavior of party leaders and the lack of substantial response to their problems. DISY and AKEL have lost a significant number of voters in recent decades, while smaller parties are following the same downward trend. The only exception is ELAM, which is recording a rise, taking advantage of public discontent. The current picture for the old parties is bleak, and despite the time they have until the elections, it is almost impossible to recover. The lack of self-criticism and the obsession with first place instead of restoring public trust exacerbate the problem. Citizens are seeking outlets for their frustration, turning to new formations. Moving away from the parties does not mean withdrawing from party life, but seeking alternative solutions and new political expressions.
