Parliament Stands with the Elderly - Bill Passed Ending Arbitrary Discrimination Against Them

The House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved (49 in favor, 1 against) a bill ending arbitrary discrimination against elderly drivers in vehicle insurance. The new legislation establishes rules of transparency and equal treatment, prohibiting the refusal of insurance, non-renewal of policies, or disproportionate premium increases based on age. It requires written justification in the event of a premium increase or denial of insurance, as well as oversight mechanisms and complaint review. MP Alexandra Attalidou, who submitted the bill, stressed that it fills an institutional gap in the protection of human rights and sends a message that age cannot be a reason for exclusion from a mandatory service. The passage of the bill is considered an important step towards strengthening equality and transparency in the insurance market.
