Papadoures: “The Ecologists Movement is Clean – They Were Taking Money from Friends for Years”,

Stavros Papadouris, MP for the Ecologists Movement, spoke on Sigma's “Tomes Sta Gegonota” regarding several important issues facing Cyprus. He began with the green transition, arguing that, although necessary, its implementation in Cyprus financially burdens citizens due to delays in developing the necessary infrastructure. He emphasized that other countries have already benefited from green policies, while in Cyprus the government seems to be “punishing” citizens for its own omissions. Regarding the housing problem, Mr. Papadouris criticized government plans that encourage relocation to mountainous areas without ensuring jobs and basic services, leading many to return to cities. He also mentioned delays in the implementation of affordable housing and the limited number of available units. Concerning foreclosures, he supported the need for a court decision determining the exact amount of debt before any action is taken. Mr. Papadouris also referred to the issue of corruption, emphasizing that the Ecologists Movement has not been involved in such cases and does not receive funding that could create dependencies. This, according to him, is an element of credibility and differentiation from other political forces. He criticized previous governments for the strong dissatisfaction of citizens with the political system. Furthermore, the MP highlighted the lack of adequate energy storage infrastructure, leading to a loss of energy generated from renewable sources and limiting their benefits. He supported that decentralized energy production, such as installing photovoltaic systems on roofs, could significantly reduce costs for households.
