Over Half of Cypriot Businesses Use Cloud Computing

Just over 50% of businesses in Cyprus used paid cloud computing services in 2023, primarily for email, office software, and file storage. According to Eurostat data, this percentage slightly decreased in 2024, while the EU as a whole saw an increase in cloud computing usage. The use of cloud services is more prevalent in large enterprises, due to their greater capacity to invest in technologies and the need for more complex IT solutions. 84.67% of large businesses used cloud services in 2024, compared to 66.78% of medium-sized businesses and 49.3% of small businesses. Eurostat explains that cloud computing allows businesses to access computing resources over the internet without having to build or maintain their own IT infrastructure. This offers flexibility, scalability, and reduced costs. Significant differences are observed between EU countries. Finland, Italy, Malta, Ireland, and Sweden have the highest rates of cloud computing usage, while Romania, Greece, and Bulgaria have the lowest. In Greece, the rate of cloud computing usage was 24.33% in 2024.
