Outcry Over Feidias' Comment: Cypriot Paralympic Committee to File Complaint to European Parliament

MEP Feidias Panagiotou caused an uproar with a comment he made about people with intellectual disabilities, referring to them as “pellous” during a podcast. The Cypriot Paralympic Committee announced that it will file a complaint to the European Parliament regarding the unacceptable comment, while other organizations and parties have also expressed strong reactions. The President of the Committee, Andreas Georgiou, strongly condemned Feidias Panagiotou and demanded a public apology for the insult caused to the Paralympic movement and all people with disabilities. He emphasized that the Committee is trying to promote the message of inclusion and equal participation in sports. Mr. Georgiou criticized the MEP's ignorance and lack of sensitivity, pointing out that he should have asked for clarification instead of making unacceptable jokes. He considered Feidias Panagiotou's comment to be demeaning to both the para-athlete hosted on the podcast and the entire Paralympic movement. The Cypriot Paralympic Committee insists on the need for a public apology and accountability from Feidias Panagiotou. The complaint to the European Parliament will aim to ensure that such behavior is not tolerated and to promote respect and dignity for all people, regardless of their abilities.
