OSAK Strongly Opposes OKYpY's Request to Postpone Ambulance Bill Discussion

OSAK expresses strong opposition to OKYpY's request to postpone the discussion of the bill for the National Ambulance Authority. OSAK expresses surprise and concern regarding OKYpY's stance, emphasizing that the Authority is essential to fill the significant gap in emergency pre-hospital care. It is recalled that the ambulance service was temporarily transferred to OKYpY with a commitment to establish an Independent Ambulance Authority within two years, however, almost seven years later, the service remains within OKYpY, which is considered a distortion of the GHS. OSAK criticizes OKYpY for providing ambulance services to all providers while simultaneously excluding the private sector from the transport of non-urgent cases and burdening patients with the cost. Two years ago, OSAK had proposed the inclusion of the ambulance service in a Crisis Management Authority, but the Government opted for the creation of a National Ambulance Authority under the Ministry of Health, a decision with which OSAK disagrees, considering the return of the service to the Ministry as a setback. However, OSAK acknowledges that the creation of the National Ambulance Authority is moving in a more correct direction and will contribute to resolving existing distortions and addressing long-standing problems. Nevertheless, OSAK opposes OKYpY's intention to develop its own plan for the ambulance service, as it believes that OKYpY had enough time to submit proposals and questions whether the Government is aware of and agrees with this stance. OSAK calls on the Government to remain firm in its decisions and proceed with the gradual independence of the Authority, reminding of previous promises. OSAK insists on the need for an independent Ambulance Authority that will ensure effective and equal access to emergency pre-hospital care for all citizens.
