OPINION: A Way Out and Hope Sought

The EU Special Representative for Cyprus, Johannes Hahn, appears to be abandoning his efforts to resolve the Cyprus issue, finding a lack of progress and willingness from both sides. Despite the initial optimism of the Greek Cypriot side regarding his appointment, Hahn found that neither side wishes to advance the process. Meetings between President Christodoulides and the UN Secretary-General have not yielded the expected results, with statements from both sides being vague and not indicating substantial progress. The UN Secretary-General’s envoy, M. A. Olgin, emphasized the need for Confidence-Building Measures, without which any substantial discussion is difficult.
