OECD in Cyprus to Discuss Affordable Housing - New Planning Underway

An OECD mission visited Cyprus (January 21-23) as part of the project “Designing and Implementing Models and Policies for Affordable Housing”. The purpose of the visit was to collect data on the current situation and policies regarding affordable housing in Cyprus, as well as to record housing needs. The project, funded by the EU’s Technical Support Instrument and implemented in collaboration with the European Commission’s Working Group for Reforms and Investments, will last 24 months and aims to improve the provision and access to affordable housing, especially for people with low and middle incomes. The OECD mission met with representatives from various ministries, organizations, and professional associations, discussing issues such as the production of new affordable units, the utilization of existing housing stock, financing, and sustainable land use. The discussions focused on the need for reform of housing policy in Cyprus, with an emphasis on providing affordable rental housing and facilitating affordable housing providers.
