Norway Scandal: Eide Intervened for Son's Internship at Foreign Ministry

Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide has admitted to making a mistake in a conflict of interest case, as he did not properly handle his son's application for an internship at the Norwegian embassy in Paris. The minister stated that he should have informed the ministry from the beginning so that the case could be handled institutionally. His son withdrew from the internship after the case became public. Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre described the matter as “serious” but maintained his confidence in the minister. The opposition criticized Eide, while the case highlights problems in the implementation of conflict of interest rules within the Norwegian government. The minister has committed to a full clarification of the procedures.
