“No to Unfair Treatment” – Workers at Support Programs of the Ministry of Education Protest Outside the Presidential Palace

Workers at the support programs of the Ministry of Education protested today outside the Presidential Palace, as part of a 24-hour strike. They are protesting against the unfair treatment they are receiving and demanding “equal rights, dignity, and recognition.” They submitted a memorandum to the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides. The workers are demanding the conversion of their contracts to permanent positions, as provided by the 2003 legislation, and denounce the government's refusal to respect the decisions of the Supreme Court. They point out that the government is submitting bills to Parliament that violate European law and legislation, with the aim of keeping workers in a state of insecurity. In the memorandum they submitted to the President, they state that after years of uncertainty and unequal treatment, the new legislation threatens to create further risks for workers. They call on the government to submit a bill immediately that complies with European law and legislation, so that their struggles will be vindicated.
