New EU Rules to Ban Harmful Substances in Toys

The European Union is strengthening toy safety with new rules that will come into effect on January 1, 2026. These regulations ban substances classified as dangerous, such as those that disrupt hormones, damage the lungs, cause allergies, or harm specific organs. Specific mention is made of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and bisphenols. In addition, the existing ban on carcinogenic, mutagenic, and toxic to reproduction substances is strengthened. Enforcement of the regulations will be done through digital tools, with the introduction of a digital product passport containing safety and compliance information, accessible to consumers via QR code.
