Netherlands: Hackers Leak Customer Data of Telecom Company on Dark Web

The theft of personal data of 6 million customers from the Dutch telecommunications company Odido, including names, telephone numbers, email addresses, bank account numbers, dates of birth and passport numbers, has begun to be published on the dark web, the company announced today. Odido stressed that it believes the claim of the organization “ShinyHunters” that it carried out the hacking. The company has decided not to engage in negotiations with these criminals or to succumb to their extortion attempts, and has received advice from cybersecurity companies and the police. The public broadcaster NOS reported today that the organization threatened to publish one million lines of customer data per day unless the company paid an amount that has not been disclosed. Dutch authorities recommend that customers do not pay ransom, as this could fund future attacks.
