MP Calls for Dismissal of CYC Board of Directors

Published January 28, 2026, 13:33

The Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Education, Pavlos Mylonas, called for the dismissal of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Youth Organisation (CYO) during the second discussion of the Organisation's budget. Mr. Mylonas expressed the view that intervention from the President of the Republic and the appointment of a new Board of Directors are necessary due to conflicts between members, inability to cooperate with management, and a lack of productive work. MP Giorgos Karoulas of DISY emphasised the need for a clear definition of the Organisation's goals and priorities and for strengthening consultation with youth organisations. Additionally, the importance of the CYO's actions in relation to the municipal and community councils of the occupied territories and the need to support displaced youth were highlighted. MP Christos Christofides of AKEL stated that many questions remain unanswered regarding the Organisation, such as the case of employee Yannis Yannakis and the acting executive secretary seconded to the Presidential Palace.
