Mother and Daughter Discover Giant Coral as Long as a Football Field

A mother and daughter have discovered the largest Pavona clavus coral in the world, measuring 111 meters long, on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. The discovery was made by Sophie Kalkowski-Poup and her mother, Jan Poup, an experienced diver and underwater photographer. The coral covers an area of 3,973 square meters, the size of a football field. The measurement was taken using manual underwater measurements and high-resolution images, creating a three-dimensional model of the coral to monitor its evolution.
