Monthly Allowance and SYOP Recruitment Limit to Increase – Changes Before the Cabinet

The Cabinet is expected to make significant decisions regarding the strengthening of the National Guard. Specifically, the special monthly allowance for Contract Soldiers (SYOP) will increase from 100 to 150 euros and from 200 to 250 euros for those serving in special units such as LOK and OUK. Simultaneously, the age limit for remaining in the National Guard will increase from 42 to 57 years, and the SYOP recruitment limit will increase from 27 to 35 years. In addition, a meritocratic process will be established for the evolution of SYOPs into Contract Non-Commissioned Officers through written exams, with the possibility of advancement to the rank of Sergeant Major. The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, emphasized that strengthening the country's defense and security is a top priority and that economic growth allows for investment in various sectors, including defense. The increase in the allowance and the expansion of recruitment limits are considered important steps to attract and retain capable personnel in the National Guard. These decisions respond to long-standing requests from SYOPs and military personnel, and are expected to contribute to improving morale and the operational capabilities of the National Guard. The establishment of a meritocratic process for the evolution of SYOPs is expected to provide incentives for their professional development and enhance the attraction of new personnel. Overall, these decisions demonstrate the government's commitment to strengthening the country's defense and security, as well as improving working conditions and career prospects for military personnel.
