Modernism as the New Heritage – Closing Ceremony of the exhibition

The Municipality of Limassol, PSI Foundation and Cathrine Art Organisation invite you to the closing ceremony of the exhibition FROM NATURE TO STRUCTURE: THREADS OF DIALOGUE which will feature a special lecture by the Mayor of Limassol, Mr. Yiannis Armeftis, titled:
“Modernism as the New Heritage”
The lecture will be held at the PSI Foundation on January 31 at 18:00. Drawing on the emblematic evolution of Cypriot modernism, the Mayor’s lecture will focus on the question of what modernism is and why it matters for the city of Limassol. It will also explore how 20th-century architecture is now being transformed into a valuable element of our cultural identity and a key tool in shaping the cities of tomorrow.
Mayor Mr. Armeftis, both an architect and the elected head of the city, will present Limassol as a living example of the implementation of modernism—examining not only its architectural legacy from the past century but also the contributions of visionary individuals whose commitment and forward-thinking spirit laid the foundations for embracing and applying the principles of modernism.
The lecture will highlight three strategic interventions promoted by the Municipality to showcase and repurpose the city’s modern heritage through contemporary practices of sustainable development, cultural investment, and social cohesion.
The event will conclude with a reception, offering the opportunity for dialogue and networking with the community shaping the city’s cultural landscape.

The exhibition From Nature to Structure: Threads of Dialogue is organized by Cathrine Art Organization and curated by Eudes Ajot. It is held under the auspices of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026, with the support of the Deputy Ministry of Culture of Cyprus, the Embassy of France, the French Institute of Cyprus, the Municipality of Limassol, the Municipality of Marseille, and the Alliance Française of Limassol
