Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is traveling to Ankara today to meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and participate in the 6th High-Level Cooperation Council between Greece and Turkey. The aim of the meeting is to maintain and strengthen open channels of communication and consolidate a working relationship between the two countries. Although there is no convergence on the official start of discussions regarding the delimitation of the continental shelf and EEZ in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean, Athens hopes for a constructive discussion and the maintenance of the climate of calm that has prevailed in bilateral relations over the past two and a half years. This climate has led to significant achievements, such as the reduction of airspace violations, improved cooperation on migration, and the facilitation of visa issuance for tourists. The meeting will be attended by Foreign Ministers Giorgos Gerapetritis and Hakan Fidan, as well as the diplomatic advisors of the two leaders. The two leaders will review bilateral relations and discuss regional and international issues. Both sides agree that issues concerning their countries should be discussed at a bilateral level and that improved relations are beneficial to stability in the region. The Greek delegation will consist of ministers such as Gerapetritis, Pierrakakis, Theodorikakos, Dimas, Chryssochoidis, Zacharaki, Kefalogiannis, Pleuris, and Mendoni. After the Council, the leaders will make statements to the press, followed by a dinner.
