Misinformation Regarding “Benefit Termination” for the Blind, Claims Deputy Ministry

The Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare denies information about the termination of benefits for blind individuals, confirming that the benefit continues normally and applications are being processed. The announcement was issued in response to reactions caused by misinformation. Currently, 1,995 beneficiaries receive a monthly allowance of €382, with a total annual expenditure of €9.3 million. Since September, 88 new beneficiaries have been approved, and 120 pending applications are being reviewed. The Deputy Ministry accuses the Pan-Cypriot Organization of the Blind of spreading the misinformation. Furthermore, it states that the pending bill on disability rights maintains the current definition of a blind person and the benefit as it stands today, while providing for the possibility of increasing benefits in the future.
