The Mexican Navy and the US Coast Guard conducted a joint operation in the Pacific Ocean, seizing tons of cocaine. The operation, which took place outside of Mexican territorial waters, is part of the bilateral cooperation between the two countries. Approximately 188 packages of cocaine were seized, found on a vessel west of Clarion Island, about 1,100 kilometers from the port of Manzanillo. This joint operation comes at a time of heightened tension between Mexico and the US, following Donald Trump's threats of military operations against drug cartels in Mexico and the bombing of vessels allegedly carrying drugs. The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, has made it clear that she will not allow US troops to enter her country. Trump, for his part, insists on the need for military intervention and has threatened to impose tariffs to pressure Mexico to increase arrests and drug seizures. The seizure of the drugs is an attempt to ease tensions and demonstrate cooperation between the two countries. Meanwhile, Washington announced the neutralization of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) belonging to Mexican cartels on the border, which led to the temporary closure of the El Paso, Texas airport. President Sheinbaum stated that she had no information about the presence of these drones on the border.
