Metzola: "Greenland is not for sale" - Support for Denmark and the Iranian people

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola reaffirmed the European Union's steadfast support for Denmark and Greenland, emphasizing that Greenland “is not for sale.” She underscored the EU’s respect for the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of both countries and expressed Europe’s willingness to cooperate with the United States on Arctic security without jeopardizing the region’s stability. Metsola dedicated a significant portion of her speech to condemning the violence and repression in Iran, describing the uprising of the Iranian people as “a cry for freedom and justice.” She stressed that the Iranian people deserve to live freely, away from a regime that uses violence as a means of survival. Furthermore, Metsola announced a ban on the entry of all representatives of the Iranian regime into the European Parliament as a sign of condemnation of the violence. She also called for the strengthening of sanctions and the designation of the Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organization, as a practical measure of support for the struggling Iranians. Metsola concluded by calling on MEPs to honor the victims of the uprising in Iran with applause, as a symbol of solidarity and recognition of their courageous struggle.
