MEPs Call for EU Autonomy and Cyprus Resolution with EU Support

Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) called on the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU to promote the strategic autonomy of Europe and to work towards the resolution of the Cyprus issue with EU support, during a discussion on the Cypriot Presidency's program. They highlighted the need for greater solidarity and consistency in EU principles, questioning why similar sanctions have not been imposed on Turkey for the occupation of Cyprus, as happened with Ukraine. Furthermore, they expressed concerns about the new budget and its potential impact on agriculture and cohesion, as well as the promotion of agreements such as Mercosur. The role of Cyprus as a bridge between the EU and the Middle East was also underscored.
