Mayor of Kourio: Alert Levels Lowered, Situation Generally Calm

The Mayor of Kourio, Pantelis Georgiou, stated that the situation in the area is generally calm and alert levels have been lowered, due to the calm night that preceded it. People are returning to their daily routine, although they remain on alert until further notice from the British Bases and the Ministry of Interior. The Mayor visited the Monastery to ensure the safety of residents and was informed by the monk that everything is well. Food is being prepared for residents at noon, while those staying in hotels have been provided with meals. Deputy Mayor of Akrotiri, Giorgos Konstantinou, said that around 30 people remained in the area and that the night was calm. A meeting will be held with the British Bases to review the situation and potentially change instructions, with an announcement after 2:00 PM. Residents will be informed of the lifting of the alert after the meeting with the British Bases, but for now, the same instructions apply, namely that anyone returning to the area does so at their own risk.
