Marinos Mousiouttas: Substantive Dialogue on Pension Reform

The Ministry of Labor describes the dialogue on pension reform as substantive, with the Minister of Labor, Marinos Mousiouttas, stating that the discussion with social partners shapes policies and leads to decisions that directly affect workers and pensioners. The strategic objectives for the second pillar of the reform, concerning occupational pension schemes and Provident Funds, were presented at the Labor Advisory Board. The outline of the five main axes of the plan was presented, as requested, including the upgrading of the supervisory authority, the strengthening of the legal framework, the expansion of participation in occupational pension funds, the adequacy of pension incomes, and the tax treatment of the second pillar. The Minister stated that no disagreements were recorded at this stage, however, each side has its own approaches. The Ministry aims to reconcile different views for the benefit of workers and pensioners. The discussion will continue on aspects of the first pillar, with the aim of interaction between the two pillars. The first pillar of the reform is progressing within the schedule, with a bill to be submitted to Parliament in June and implementation from January 1, 2027. The Minister described the tripartite nature of the Labor Advisory Board as crucial, emphasizing its value in shaping decisions.
