Maria Karystianou Resigns as President of the Tempi Victims' Association

Maria Karystianou, president of the Board of Directors (BoD) of the Tempi Victims' Association, has submitted her resignation, alleging serious irregularities and obstacles in her work. According to her, members of the BoD were 'sabotaging' her efforts, refusing to publicize the association's financial statements, and questioning her interventions in the European Parliament regarding the Tempi case. The resignation followed a letter she received from five of the seven members of the BoD, requesting her departure due to her decision to found a political party. Karystianou described the BoD's decision as invalid and substitutional, as it was not preceded by a legal meeting with a relevant agenda item. In her statement, Karystianou described a climate of internal tension and undermining, despite her efforts to maintain unity. She argued that her initiatives to seek justice for the victims, both nationally and at the European level, were met with skepticism. Karystianou is calling for a General Assembly to be convened to elect a new BoD, leaving the members of the Association to decide on the way forward. Furthermore, she emphasizes the need for transparency and the publication of the association's financial data, which, she claims, was not accepted by the members who proceeded with the disputed decision.
