Limassol: Dramatic Arrest of 32-Year-Old for Drugs - Attacked Police Officer

Yesterday afternoon in Limassol, members of the MMAD attempted to stop a 32-year-old riding a bicycle for a check. The cyclist refused to comply and tried to escape, falling to the ground. After getting up, he continued to run but was arrested shortly after. During the arrest, he allegedly resisted and attacked a member of the MMAD. At the Agios Ioannis Police Station, it was determined that the 32-year-old had been illegally in the Republic of Cyprus since January 3, 2024. During the subsequent search, 26 pieces of aluminum foil containing cannabis (approximately 20 grams), 16 pieces of aluminum foil containing methamphetamine (approximately 9 grams), and €442 in cash were found in his possession. The 32-year-old was taken into custody, and the YKAN, in collaboration with the Agios Ioannis Police Station, continues the investigation into the case. His resistance during the arrest and his illegal stay in Cyprus are significant elements of the investigation. The case highlights the ongoing efforts of the Police to combat drug trafficking and address illegal immigration in Cyprus. The arrest was made following an operation by the MMAD, which responded to a call for a check.
