Lifelong Prisoner 'Hairdresser' Seeks Retrial or Conviction Cancellation

Doros Theophanous, known as the 'Hairdresser' and serving a life sentence for the murder of his partner and daughter, has filed an application with the Supreme Constitutional Court requesting a review of his case or even the annulment of his conviction. The application is based on new witness testimonies that challenge the testimony of the key prosecution witness, Antonis Prokopios Kitas, who had claimed Theophanous confessed to the crime. Three witnesses, including a former Assistant Attorney General, claim that Kitas admitted to having given false testimony. The Court has granted permission to register the application due to the new evidence. The case resurfaces after Theophanous' recent escape, which led to political and disciplinary consequences.
