Life in Israeli Shelters Amid War – Weddings, Yoga, Medical Care

As sirens wail and warnings of incoming missiles proliferate, residents across Israel are taking refuge in underground shelters, turning parking lots, subway stations and basements into makeshift communities. Inside these shelters, life continues in paradoxical ways: weddings, yoga classes, and even medical care are provided in these spaces. These images capture the surreal reality of life under attack, where Israelis have learned to adapt and find moments of relaxation even in times of crisis. A bride-to-be continues her wedding photoshoot inside a shelter, while people in costumes celebrate Purim in an underground station. Israel has an extensive shelter system, unlike other countries in the region, such as Iran and Lebanon. However, access to shelters is not uniform, resulting in some being forced to live entirely underground or resorting to makeshift solutions. In a parking lot under the Tel Aviv Central Bus Station, families have set up tents, while hospitals have implemented emergency procedures.
