Letymbiotis: Support Plan for Livestock Farmers is Advancing

The process of preparing a support plan for livestock farmers affected by foot-and-mouth disease is at an advanced stage, according to Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis. The Ministry of Agriculture, in coordination with the Ministry of Finance, is preparing the plan, which is expected to be submitted to the Council of Ministers for approval soon. The priority is to support livestock farms affected by the virus. The amount of the compensation package will be finalized after the official submission of the proposal. The Government is in contact with the European Commission on both health protocols and ensuring Halloumi exports. The Council of Ministers has been briefed on the crisis management and the actions taken to tackle foot-and-mouth disease. The government is working to protect livestock and prevent further spread of the virus. The support plan is expected to help livestock farmers cope with the economic consequences of the disease and continue their operations.
