Law Regulates Sale of Nicotine Pouches – Strict Criteria Set by Parliament

The Parliament has passed a law regulating the sale of nicotine pouches, setting strict criteria and conditions for their distribution in the Cypriot market. According to the law, nicotine pouches are defined as manufactured products containing nicotine, intended for oral use without inhalation or heating, and not used for medical or pharmaceutical purposes. The new law paves the way for the taxation of these products, which until now have been circulating in the market without any legislative regulation. Regulations will be issued by the Ministry of Health, which will establish strict rules for the import and distribution of the products. The passage of the law was proposed by MP Chrysi Pantelidi and supported by all parties on the Parliamentary Health Committee. This regulation aims to control the uncontrolled sale and use of these products, protecting public health. The law is expected to help avoid negative consequences that may arise from the uncontrolled distribution of nicotine pouches, as well as increase state revenue through their taxation.
