Labor Committee Continues Review of Disability Rights Bill

The Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Klea Chatzistefanou-Papadellena, expressed confidence that the swift passage of the bill for people with disabilities will provide immediate benefits to thousands of citizens. The statement was made after the meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Labor, which decided to continue the article-by-article discussion of the bill, with the aim of voting on it before the elections. The Deputy Minister stated that there is ongoing cooperation with the Parliament and the Labor Committee, and that answers have been given to many of the questions raised. She expressed satisfaction with the agreement to continue the discussion in the Labor Committee with article-by-article examination. The MP of DIPA, Giorgos Penintaex, supported the immediate passage of the unified legislation for people with disabilities, which will eliminate discrimination. He called on all stakeholders to set aside their differences and work together for the common good. According to Mr. Penintaex, the new legislation will benefit more than 10,000 new beneficiaries, regardless of financial criteria, and will increase benefits for car purchases, mobility and other monthly allowances. The Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare assured that the requests and discussions that have taken place will be taken into account.
