KOA: New Legislation Expected to Prevent Sexual Harassment Incidents

The budget of the Cyprus Sports Organization (KOA) for 2026 is balanced, amounting to €60,020,150, and is linked to the strategic reform of sports in Cyprus. The President of the KOA, Yiannis Ioannou, stated that the organization maintains a “relentless stance” against cases of sexual harassment in sports, with one case leading to a conviction and another ongoing. The KOA’s strategic plan for the period 2025–2027 is based on four pillars: promoting sports for all, strengthening competitive sports, developing sports infrastructure, and modernizing the organization’s operations. Emphasis is placed on supporting women’s sports, with improvements in infrastructure and increased financial support. Regarding violence in stadiums, the KOA referred to the renewed fan card, which acts as a deterrent and facilitates the identification of troublemakers. Approximately 125,000 new fan cards have been issued. The KOA plans to develop sports infrastructure, including upgrading existing facilities and creating new ones, such as low-cost sports facilities of the “balloon” type in schools.
