KFIKB: Interest Rate Subsidy for Housing Loans Will Be 0%

The Fair Distribution of Burdens Fund (KFIKB) will now subsidize the interest rate for housing loans at 0%, following recent changes to the regulations. Initially, beneficiaries were burdened with a minimum interest rate of 1%, which has now been abolished. The maximum interest rate subsidy from KFIKB amounts to 3.5%. However, the Ministry of Finance intends to request a modification of the regulations to reinstate the provision for the beneficiary to pay 1%. The Legal Service has instructed KFIKB to examine applications in accordance with the current regulations until the amendment is passed, in order to avoid illegality. This change is expected to benefit households, according to the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Refugees, Nikos Kettiros. The amendment of the regulations was an initiative of AKEL and was passed by the majority of the Parliament, while DISY voted against it. The abolition of the minimum interest rate is expected to facilitate access to housing for more citizens.
