Issues at the CYC Before Parliament: "Things and Wonders"

The Parliamentary Committee on Education discussed the budget of the Cyprus Youth Organisation (CYO) for 2026, in an environment of resignations from the Board of Directors and accusations of direct assignments and misleading the Council during the budget preparation. The President of the CYO, Konstantina Achilleos, requested the approval of the budget, while representatives of the trade unions requested that the funds for medical care not be committed. During the discussion, reference was made to the existence of a supplementary collective agreement signed in 2024, which provoked reactions from the trade union representatives. MP Alekos Tryfonidis stressed that the Medical Care Funds have been funded by employee contributions. MP Christos Christofides described the situation at the CYO as "things and wonders", pointing out that half of the Board of Directors is resigning, possibly to put pressure on the remaining members to resign. He also highlighted the existence of direct assignments and the "misleading" of the Board of Directors during the budget preparation. The President of the Youth of the Democratic Rally, Demos Georgiades, stated that the dysfunction of the CYO has serious consequences for the organised groups of young people and called on the government to take decisions and offer assistance, while the President of NEDISY asked the President of the Republic to dismiss the Board of Directors or find a solution with the Director General.
